Our Model

Each year, ASAP coordinates 300 after school and summer enrichment programs in partnership with more than 200 schools, libraries, recreation centers, and community-based organizations throughout Philadelphia.

ASAP’s Program Model

ASAP’s program model can be adapted to a wide range of out-of-school time settings to help teachers, informal educators, and volunteers foster the personal growth and sense of belonging for participating youth.

Through the activities and services described below, ASAP helps its partner sites incorporate evidence-based best practices for youth development.

Engaging Caring Adults

ASAP recruits caring adults to lead after school and summer enrichment clubs through year-round outreach to principals, teachers, after school staff, universities, and affinity groups.

Training & Materials

ASAP organizes regular trainings and professional development sessions to empower its club leaders to run effective programs. Once trained, club leaders receive program curriculum, suggested activity plans, and program equipment (e.g. chess sets, Scrabble boards, debate evidence packets, etc.).

Club Coordination

ASAP’s program staff guide club leaders in establishing age-appropriate structure for club meetings and provides ongoing technical support via phone, email, and site visits.

Most ASAP clubs meet twice a week for 12-24 weeks a year.

Competitions, Field Trips, and Culminating Events

Each year ASAP organizes more than 40 after school, weekend, and summer events designed to deepen students’ skills and foster a sense of community among diverse groups of youth. This includes monthly chess and debate tournaments, Scrabble events, drama performances and trips to professional productions. For most events ASAP provides transportation for clubs as well as trophies and awards for participating students.
